Your roof edge takes a beating in Massachusetts. Ice dams push water up under the shingles, gutters overflow onto the fascia, and old wood boards rot from the back where you can't see it. Once the fascia goes soft, gutters start pulling away. We fix the wood first, then wrap it in white aluminum so you never paint it again.
In North Adams we wrapped 186 linear feet of fascia in aluminum and installed new vinyl soffit as part of a full re-side. Before any metal went on, damaged boards were replaced. The new soffit went up vented, so the attic could still pull air in at the eaves and push it out up top.
Your soffit also works as the intake for your attic ventilation. If it gets covered with solid panels, or the vents get blocked during an install, your attic runs hot in summer and damp in winter, and that feeds ice dams. We keep your soffit ventilation open and seal every corner and return so pests and weather stay out.

What happens behind your roof edge
Fascia carries your gutters, so when it rots, everything hanging on it goes with it. Old aluminum gutters pulled off by ice usually take a chunk of soft fascia along. We probe your boards during the free estimate, mark every bad section, and replace the wood before wrapping it, so the aluminum isn't hiding rot.
Wrap only works if water can't get behind it. We bend each piece to fit your boards, tuck it under your drip edge, and lap joints so they shed water. Corners and returns get sealed. That keeps the wood under the aluminum dry through heavy snow load and spring melt.
Ventilation is the part most crews skip. Your soffit lets cold air into the attic at the eaves. Block it and the attic warms up, snow melts on the roof, refreezes at the edge, and you get ice dams. We keep those vents open and clear on every soffit we install.
What happens behind your soffit and fascia
You won't see most of this once the job is done. That's why we photograph it before we cover it.
- Substrate inspected and photographed before it's covered
- Every opening flashed so water gets directed back out
- Seams and laps of the weather barrier taped and sealed
- Fastening and clearances per the manufacturer's manual
- Soffit ventilation kept open, corners and returns sealed
- Site cleared and magnet swept at the end of every day
