Most leaks around windows have nothing to do with the glass. They come from the opening. Wind-driven rain hits your wall during a nor'easter, finds a gap at the sill or the head, and runs behind your siding. You won't see it until the paint bubbles inside or the sill turns soft. By then the sheathing underneath can be gone too.
We treat every opening as a water problem first. When the old unit comes out, we look at the rough opening and photograph what we find. Then we flash it so any water that gets past the trim gets directed back outside. Weather barrier laps are taped and sealed. The new window or door goes in per the manufacturer manual, square and shimmed.
Outside, we finish the job with exterior trim and white aluminum wrap, so you don't have wood casing to scrape and repaint every few years. You can replace one drafty door or every window in your house. Either way you get a written estimate with the scope, the units and a payment plan before we order anything.
